About The Characters: Meet The Minor Players In “The Wall Of Night” Series — Meet the Old Earl
It’s Thursday — and time for another post in the About The Characters series, which focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night series, in large part because:
“I think it’s the presence of the smaller characters that “makes” a story, creating texture around the main points of view.”
~ from my Legend Award Finalist’s Interview, 2013
Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night, but now I’m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost and Daughter of Blood — in alphabetical order, by name, of course!
As mentioned last month, the series has now reached “O” and the Old Earl of Night. Although deceased, I still consider him a character in the story, not because he has appeared as a ghost (although there is at least one character who is, indeed, a phantom), but because his influence continues to shape others in the story.

My oldest friend, she added, rocking again, made me into a traitor to Earl and Heir and House, as well as to myself—Nerion, in whose cause both my face and my leg were cut open, holding the door against the Old Earl when he was bent on her murder.
