“Completed Today”
I’m in a “crunch phase” right now with the Gathering rewrite/revision/edit and reaching that 1 July deadline, so am keeping this post crisp and focused on a “just completed.”
At present, because of that “crunchiness” I am also in what I would call a “phony war” in terms of reducing the “total pages until completion.” Basically I am revamping a 2-3 chapter segment at the end of Part 4 of the book and until that process is complete—i.e., until the new chapters merge into the (old) chapter at the very end of Part 4, I can’t really physically cross off ‘pages complete’ in rewrite/revision terms. So that’s staying at the previous total until now.
What I can tell you is that since my last “Just Completed” on June 20 I have:
- reviewed and polished 15 pages of previously rewritten manuscript;
- written 3882 new words / 14 pages of completely new manuscript;
- completed 1 additional chapter and launched into the next; and
- Total Pages Until Completion [still stands at]: 104 plus Glossary. 😉
If I were standing on a street corner with a placard at this juncture it would read: “Toot to show your support!” I will leave you free, however, to express your support—or otherwise!—in any way you choose. 🙂
TOOOOOOOOOOT TOOOOOOOOt! 🙂
Here’s my TOOOT! 😛 You rock, Helen! 😀
Mary, Giada: Many thanks to you both!! 😀
Hi Helen, Im halfway into The Heir of Night and its a sign that I think it is fantastic that I sought you out on the interweb to see when the next installment is due. Im adding my “toot” in support. The funny thing is I found the book in the Rangiora Library hunting for a new writer and something to cheer me up as I wait to see when my house will be demolished (as Kaiapoi is on hold, was suposed to be about the 28th June). Here you are in Christchurch too. Well you’ll get no complaints from me for any delay, managing to write at all with EQ brain is a feat, I’m impressed. i’ll just have to try and savour this book a bit longer. keep up the good work. Kia kaha
Jacqui,
Firstly, my condolences on the loss of your home in Kaiapoi: I know how terribly hard hit your community was in the September 4 earthquake. I hope the situation resolves for you soon and in a positive way.
And fabulous in amongst all that, that you’re enjoying Heir—definitely the kind of feedback that makes any author’s smile widen. 😉
And regrettably, Gathering has now been “quaked” three time over, one reason that this time I decided that I was keeping going anyway, ie “full steam ahead and damn the liquefaction”, I mean torpedoes! Fingers and toes crossed that despite the quaking and shaking (which involves frequent dashes for the ‘security point’ of the study’s heart rimu doorway) the book does get there.
Beep Beep! (I have to be different). You’re motoring along! I have no idea how you’re managing it. My brain is mush right now. Well done!
Thanks, Wen. Just be yourself and you’ll always be just fine!:)
You can put me in the honking-of-the-horn crowd! 🙂
As we say in this part of the great ‘downunder’: “Cheers, mate!”
Toot toot! Beep! Honk!
Thanks, Morag! 😉
Toot Toot!
Thanks for your support, good sir!
Here’s a few TOOTS from me too !
As a reader, I would prefer to get quality as a first priority, rather than “on time”.
I think you are doing amazingly well to keep to schedule, given what you and all of Christchurch are having to deal with.
June, thanks for the toots! Sometimes sticking to the schedule seems like the only thing to do, simply because it takes your mind off everything else. And thank you for voting for quality–sure hope I can deliver!
toot toot toot!!!!
Yahoo! 😀
HONK HONK! My horn does *not toot . Go Helen, Go Helen, it’s your birthday, it’s your birthday (chanting this while doing the cabbage patch dance) Now you should feel properly motivated. If not, chant and dance a few more times!
OK, feelin’ motivated now! 😀
Toot toot!
Stay warm and safe.
Thank you, Jan. I currently have the power on and the big heater in the study (needless to say, the cat has discovered this and now hangs out with me all day 😉 ); re safe, well, a wee word to the god of earthquakes would be appreciated … (I think that’s Poseidon Earthshaker in the Greek pantheon, but not too sure of the others!)
Moving right along. Its all good.
And more soon!
