The Best of ‘… on Anything Really’ 2011: The Tuesday Poem—“Knowing” (for Valentine’s Day)
Knowing
You’re lucky,
my mother said
in her long dying,
that you have
someone
who loves you.
So much left unsaid
about her life.
But she was right in this:
I am. I do.
Wake every day
to your warm
breathing.
Wonder.

Knowing was featured as the ” … on Anything, Really” Tuesday Poem on February 15, here.
And in the year when we came to measure everything in these terms, just a week before the devastating February 22nd earthquake.
I remember you posting this – it is a lovely small gem.
Thank you, Catherine.
I loved this before and I love it again! Hope all is well and the shocks are subsiding…
Thanks, Mary—they are reducing but had a good ole ‘rumble’ followed by the ‘long roll’ an hour or so back: yes, just checked—it was a 4.1, but ‘only’ 15 so far today according to the Christchurch Quake Map.
Yeesh. 🙁 I hope the reducing trend continues, though.
Me too!
One of my favorite poems ever, I think. It says so much in such a few lines.
Thank you, Wen; I’m glad you “like” 🙂
