Less Than 6 Weeks To Go …
Today it really came home to me that there are just on 6 weeks to go until The Gathering of the Lost is published! That is, just under 6 weeks in the USA & Canada, and just very slightly over in the UK/AUS/NZ.
I “knew it” intellectually, but for some reason it hasn’t seemed quite real—possibly because there have been so many other things happening in the “here and now.” But seeing an advance post on the wonderful Beatties Bookblog the other day stsrted the process of ‘making it real’—if interested you can read that post here.
So now I’m thinking that I probably need to do something to get into that countdown mode. For The Heir of Night I had some ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) to give away, but that’s not the case this time around, so I shall have to put my thinking cap on …
But I can confirm that I will be doing a Big Idea post on John Scalzi’s Whatever blog on 29 March—and yes, there is actually a big idea for The Gathering of the Lost that is different from that for The Heir of Night, although I didn’t realise it myself until I’d finished writing the book. So it’s a kind of underground big idea—but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until 29 March to find out more! 😉
Meanwhile, if you want to read the Big Idea post for The Heir of Night again, it’s still here.
Now I see why you want to do a podcast with Patrick.
I still have to read Heir of Night though…
Paul—you haven’t read The Heir of Night yet? Well clearly your life must a bleak and barren wasteland, wrapped in unremitting twilight, with drear winds blowing across it—oops, no, that’s the actual Wall of Night … (a thousand apologies ensue ;-))
In terms of the podcasts, Patrick’s call for ‘interest’ was indeed timely, but as a broadcaster as well as a writer and reader with many “terribly important thoughts” [grins] on speculative fiction, as well as being one of those ‘participate-y’ types, I suspect I would have been interested in any case.:)
Wow, that’s happened so fast! I can’t wait 🙂
Wen, I am so glad it feels fast to you! Sometimes, especially over this past year it has felt like forever to me. And with some writers able to crank out books in 6-9 months I have definitely felt like a “below par” performer–but then again, performance is also about the quality of the product and I’m definitely doing all within my power to deliver on that.
You’re cruel to make us wait!
Mwuu-ha-ha!
