Looks Like Snow—Christchurch Past & Present
Given Christchurch’s recent snow dump, thought a few photos might be in order.
The first one comes courtesy of Christchurch City Libraries and is snow in Christchurch ca. 1862. Rather liked this one & the simplicity of Christchurch of yore.
The rest are what I returned to the other day, having been 10 days away in far more temperate–subtropical even!—climes, with the final day an enforced holiday due to all flights being cancelled (because of the snow.)
So here are a few snaps of what I found when I actually made it home after a ‘winter wonderland’ flight in across the Southern Alps and Canterbury Plains.
.
It’s pushing 90 degrees Fahrenheit here today…so these pictures are very very welcome!
It’s like the end of Bradbury’s “Golden Apples of the Sun” as quoted in a reply on my tribute post: all the shivers of association with that single word “north.”
Stay cool while we stay warm.:)
Ah, wasn’t it gorgeous? So much nicer to see snow in the backyard instead of liquefaction too!
Exactly so! 🙂
Ah right, it’s winter now where you live. Snow is such a pretty sight.
I recall, from when I lived in Sweden, that the first snow of winter is always exciting and wonderful and magical, but by the time the last fall comes (even as late as May if I recall correctly) one is wella nd truly “over” it.:) Sadly, here in NZ we are not at all geared up for it because large falls occur only infrequently so we tend to suffer a bit!
