But It’s Not Over Yet—The Draw for Copies 2 & 3 Continues!
As I said last week, A Memory of Light marks completion of such a major epic fantasy series that I want to maximize your opportunities to win, so here’s what I’m doing:
- I’m making the draw for 1 of the 3 copies each week over 3 weeks (from the first post until January 7): so the first winner has been drawn today and a second draw will be made on 31 December, with the third and final draw on Monday, January 7 — just 1 day ahead of A Memory of Light‘s worldwide release.
- If you’ve already commented on the first, December 17 post then fear not—your name will still be automatically entered into the 31 December and January 7 draws. So you need do nothing more. But if you would like your name to be entered a second time, or you have just discovered the giveaway and wish to enter, then just answer the (again: easy-peasy!) question below.
- And remember—you will get a third opportunity to enter your name for the final draw (on January 7) next Monday. 🙂
.
And Now, Here’s Your Next Question:
Who is your absolutely favourite character in the Wheel of Time series—and why?
.
I must admit, I am really hoping some of you will comment again, because I really enjoyed your comments on the reasons why you love the series. I found your enthusiasm inspiring, and I also felt very moved at the profound and positive part the series has played in so many of your lives.

Notes re the Giveaway:
- The giveaway is resticted to readers resident in Australia and New Zealand only.
- Each draw will be made using Random.Org with the results posted on the blog on 24 and 31 December, and 7 January respectively.
- If the winners have not contacted me by Friday 11 January at the latest, I shall re-draw for any of the books that are unclaimed.
- Hachette NZ have confirmed that the books are heavily embargoed until January 8, but they will forward the winning copies after that date.
Congratulations Sam!!
My favourite character(at the moment) is Mat, his has been an adventure filled journey ;The hat, the courtship of Tuon, the battles , what’s not to love?
My favourite character is Egwene. Seeing how her character has developed to the point where she has most of the Aes Sedai wrapped around her little finger has been fantastic. Also her top moment when she almost singlehandedly held the Tower against the Seanchan raiders sent shivers down my spine.
It’s a toss up between Mat and Nynaeve. I actually disliked Mat for most of the first book as he came across as rather selfish. That was until he stuck around with Rand after he got sick when it would have been so easy to abandon him. After that it became apparent that for all of his bluster he has a good heart. I’ve always admired Nynaeve’s conviction and single-mindedness.
The prologue of The Eye of the World gave me my favourite character. It never ceases to amaze me that the very first character I met, imprinted so forcefully in my mind.
That very first scene we read introduces us to the Alpha and the Omega of this world right away and despite the undoubted quality, sheer volume and depth of character that has followed, the moments of truth depicted in the confrontation between Lews Therin Telamon and Elan Morin Tedronai by far outstrip them all.
in reading that confrontation, I came to KNOW some inaliable things about my favorite character. Lews Therin loved and respected his wife. He was feared and respected by friends and enemies alike. He was extremely powerful and quite mad.
when he was healed enough to understand what he had done, despite all the power he had at his command, he could not deal with the enormity of his destruction. So the wheel of time became a story of hope for me. In a world where souls rebirth is canonical, I hoped fervently that Lews Therin would find redemption.
So as things stand at the beginning of a memory of light, grace and compromise within have been achieved by the Dragon Reborn through the intergration of Lews Therin. My hoping journey has ended
Matt, hands down.
He’s such a fun character, full of dichotomies. The farm boy noble that at once seems to know all about life and love and war, while at the same time knowing nothing at all (except about war).
S
I think my favorite is Tuon. Matt is fun but Tuon isn’t just an extra. A rather complete and in control person with both passion and drive.
Rand & all the Aes Sedai are central to the story but nowhere near as interesting.
After Tuon & Matt next fave is Lan. I think it is going to end badly but the grim determination to meet that fate resonates with me.
My favourite character is the Lews Therin Telamon in Rand’s head. The banter he has with Rand was great to read as well as the mystery of “is he real”. Always love to read the Rand chapters. The pressure and responsibilities he faces, with everyone telling him do this don’t do that and instead finding his own way is why I like the character.
Egwene, because she is so boss in the last book. She was in a difficult position, but made some huge power plays.
This is a little odd, perhaps – but I found it hard to choose between some of the main players (and Lan is so close) but I’m thinking it’s Someshta – The Green Man 🙂
He’s wonderful and I love the mythology woven around him, his nobility is great and his role in the first book is just superb.
I adore Nynaeve.
I shouldn’t – she’s a bad tempered shrew. She would be ghastly in real life, and her braid tugging habit has been described to death. But I love her passion and fury, her intense caring, quiet preoccupation with clothing. Her growth has been a delight to follow, her achievements are extraordinary and her love story has been one of the best in the series
Great to see so many comments coming in—and a diverse range of characters too as favourites, even if there is a very large cast to choose from. 🙂
My favourite is Perrin. He is loyal to his strong wife and is was the first in an age to (co)create a power wrought weapon! And he is a beast!
My favourite character is Mat! It’s probably because he has an Aussie type of personality. While he’s a bit scraggly on the outside we all know he is loyal, faithful and dependable on the inside. He will never let evil triumph over good and will always stick up for people who depend on him.
Mat would definitely be my favorite. You can always find him in a pickle that is quite humorous. He has this level of common sense you would expect in a farmers son such as he is, but as he becomes more of a noble – like it or not – he does show he can do the right thing for the people as a leader. Some of his hidden reflections are nice as well, specifically I remembered that brief moment after losing his eye where he showed his fear for how it would effect him, his relationship with Tuon and his fighting.
My favourite character is Logain. He’s gone through the gamut of emotions, false dragon, gentled and gave up, healed again. After all of that he wasn’t tempted to join up with Mazrim but instead decided to back up Rand, despite Rand’s emotional descent at times.
It was tough to narrow it down, but Nynaeve is my favourite character. Stubborn, brave, compassionate, ass-kicking powerful and not afraid to show her temper. She and the other women of WoT universe gave me some pretty amazing female role models during my formative years when I read, re-read and then read the series again (and again).
Mat, gotta love those dice in his head.
My favorite Character is Perrin. I just find myself connecting with him more in the way he thinks and acts. I loved reading his POV and basically watching him grow thoughout the series.
my favourite character is Loial. He travels with the characters and goes through his own battles of doing what is right and what is expected. His grace and humility is shared with great strength and strong resolve. As a character is is more human than a lot of the humans. And I would love to hear the treesinging!
I have to truthfully admit that my favorite character is Perrin Goldeneyes… he is a person who has taken on leadership and more responsibilities than he ever wanted, not for himself but because others needed him to put aside his wants, and I believe the world could always use a role model like that.
