Why I’m Voting Today
“Do not think your single vote does not matter much. The rain that refreshes the parched ground is made up of single drops” – Kate Sheppard.
What she said: that woman was all kinds of awesome.
Plus, if you don’t like the government you’ve got, or how any government operates, don’t treat citizenship and democracy like spectator sports: they ain’t.
Hokay, said my piece–time to get off my bench and onto the field of play.
I was thinking of Kate Sheppard on my way to the voting booths – she may well be what got me through the circus that was this year’s election.
Yes, it hasn’t exactly been inspiring stuff–but all that says to me is that the rest of us have to get more involved and “take it back.”
There was a minor traffic jam at the polling booth I voted at. This was at 10.15am in the rain. I suspect it will get a lot more busy as the day goes by.
The good thing is that the voting booths are very well sign-posted with orange boards on the streets. It is hard to miss the signs if you are driving or walking by.
Whereas we have a lovely sunny day down here…
