Just When We Thought It Was Over: Sir Peter Jackson To Make Tom Bombadil?
I’m not sure what I think about this to be honest, especially after The Hobbit was supposed to mark “the end”, but I saw a snippet that suggested Sir Peter Jackson may be poised to make a two-part film version of JRR Tolkien’s The Adventures Of Tom Bombadil.
Interestingly, the suggestion was that Sir Peter may actually be going to do more than a fleeting cameo this time and play the part of Tom Bombadil as well as direct.
And since the part of Goldberry needs to be played by a young, preferably blonde, woman who can also sing, the rumor is that Sir Peter may be trying to secure NZ’sย sweetheart, singer Hayley Westenra for the role.
In an interesting twist, the apparent reason these rumors have surfaced now is because of last weekend’s Northland by-election. It seems the perfect location for the Old Forest is seen as being Stewart Island and with so much of the island in the Conservation (DOC) estate the government was proposing to introduce special legislation to facilitate building of a WETA & Park Road production annex as part of a “one-off” DOC concession. But apparently with Winston Peters winning the Northland seat, the government can no longer be sure of its numbers to push such a large departure to the Conservation legislation through.
It all sounds very interesting—or perhaps, like so much at this particular time of year, could just turn out to be what Margaret Mahy would have called “bubble-trouble”…

Ahem: please note the date of this post.
Enh, I can’t see it happening.
I suspect, Paul, that you see clearly and to the heart of the matter. ๐
Nice ๐ Will they have kiwis in it as some of the birds he charms?
I think they would have to be Stewart Island kiwi… ๐
