Fun With Fellow SFF Folks in Sydney
I’ve just spent the last few days in Sydney and have had a fabulous time meeting up with lots of books and SFF folk.
I would have liked to have gotten some photos onto the blog a little sooner, but I was just a bit too busy—in the best possible way, though, and I can still share some of the pics with you today and tomorrow.
Today I thought I’d focus on meeting up with people. First and foremost in that regard was the opportunity to meet fellow SFF author and friend, Courtney Schafer, in person — and I can think of nowhere better than in the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House with the Harbour Bridge in the background:

Afterward, Courtney and I headed in to see the wonderful folk at Galaxy Bookshop, where we hung out and talked books and spec fic for a while before signing some books. Fun!

Later that evening Courtney & I had a few drinks with fellow SpecFic-ers from the Sydney scene, in this photo we’re with Adrian and Durand from Grimdark Magazine. If Grimdark and more action-orientated SciFi is your thing, then I think you might like to check the magazine out.

I was also very pleased to have the opportunity to meet up with the team at Hachette Australia. It’s always nice to put names to faces and talk books over afternoon tea. This is me with the lovely Sarah and Kimberley — and check out the mighty fine background display they did for Daughter of Blood. 🙂

Nice photos; why are those ties hanging above you at the Galaxy Bookshop?
They’re the Harry Potter (& Hogwarts) ties. 😉
So, Courtney has now met you, and I’ve met Courtney, and Courtney and I have both met Kate. Missing a few links, there, in our “roundtable podcast”. 🙂
Well, now, Courtney and I were talking about my potentially coming to a Con in the States, so if we could find the right one, then maybe we could connect those missing links. 😉
There is always Finland next year. I am very tempted to go to Worldcon there.
Well, deus volent, I AM going (I have an attending membership anyway)
Am seriously considering it, too, so we’ll have to ‘work’ on Courtney & Kate (if she is not already attending.)
Helen, I love this travel log. Thanks so much for sharing the journey with us!
Glad you’re enjoying it, Kim. I am working on mastering the mysteries of my smartphone so I get better at doing it in real time rather than retrospect! 🙂
