About The Characters: Meet The Minor Players In “The Wall Of Night” Series — Meet Nerys
The About The Characters post series focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night series, in large part because:
“I think it’s the presence of the smaller characters that “makes” a story, creating texture around the main points of view.”
~ from my Legend Award Finalist’s Interview, 2013
Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night, but now I’m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost and Daughter of Blood — in alphabetical order, by name, of course!
Currently we’re in the realm of “N” — and today’s character, Nerys, is one whose part has remained steady throughout the series to date. While genuinely minor, I believe she makes a significant contribution of the texture of the story. Along with her “band of brothers” — but that goes without saying. 😀

Nerys: an honour guard serving the House of Night; also known as Silent Nerys
The rat-fox bark came again, followed by the brief twitter of a disturbed bird: Ter or Lawr letting them know that a small company of riders was approaching. Garan looked to Nerys and saw that she already had her bow ready.

.
Not that any of them could have seen anything, because they had all been riding ahead of him—except possibly Nerys, who might have glanced back over her shoulder at the critical moment. But the one thing you could be sure about with Nerys was that whatever she saw, word of it was unlikely to pass her lips.

I love Nerys, Garan too, but she has a great vibe
Thanks, Martina — I’ve liked the way Nerys evolves through the series as well, much of which comes from the muse, not just conscious authorial choices. 🙂
