Saturday Fun
The latest episode of 58 Eridani will post tomorrow, so I apologise to any disappointed followers of the game log—but in the meantime, here’s some Saturday fun for ya. 🙂
Firstly, although between trees and book launches I have not had much opportunity to pursue my quest for the perfect orange cake recipe, but I still had some fun last night throwing together an autumn galette for the Friday crowd. The recipe nods to Nigella for the use of polenta in the pie crust (gives it nice crunch) but otherwise it was just a matter of using what was to hand — in this case, nectarines and plums, with a sprinkling of sliced almonds from the pantry. It tasted great, though.
I’ve headed out to Akaroa a couple of times recently, not just to look at trees like the fabulous Cooptown limes, but also to take in other local sites like the Giant’s House garden (which is officially of “National Significance.”) Here are a few other locals I met en route…
Fun, huh?
If a little creepy, not to mention crawly in the case of the guy on my left.
Just to give you an idea of what the Giant’s House is like, meet Kitty Catch-me and Rolling Dice (below):
I am also quoted in the weekend sections of the Christchurch Press, Dominion Post, and Waikato Times’ today—no, not about me or my books, but in a feature article on handwriting, titled The Lettering Rebellion, by Michelle Duff. Here is a sample of my appearance therein:
“Christchurch writer Helen Lowe … says some of her best ideas come to her during the three handwritten pages.”
Grab a copy of any one of those newspapers to find out more.
Enjoy your weekends. 🙂
