Updates & Upsides: A Sneak Preview Into the WALL #4 “Tuckerization” Character
Last week, I referenced an upside of the recent WALL #4 update, which was focusing on what’s next.
But then I got to thinking that it might be fun to share a very small sneak peek into the section that’s just been completed. One, among many, elements within it is the introduction of WALL #4’s “Tuckerization” character, June Gum Young.
As was also the case for The Gathering of the Lost, part of the launch celebrations for Daughter of Blood included a giveaway of a “Tuckerization” in WALL #4, i.e. when a character in the book is named after a real-life person.
The winner was June Young, who when we corresponded afterward, asked if the Tuckerization could be for her full name, June Gum Young. I’m conscious, as with all aspects of completing the series, that June has had a very long wait, so in considering sneak previews, I thought an advance look at her character might be the go.
It’s just a snippet and the final version may vary — but I’m confident the character, and the essentials of her entry into the WALL story, will be much as you read them now.
“I can put sleep on him and a spell that binds spirit to body.” The clear voice spoke Derai, but with an accent eerily close to that of southern Emer. Kalan’s head jerked around, because he had assumed the approaching hooves were Guin and Maer. The newcomer looked every inch a Lathayran skirmisher, of the kind that served as mercenaries from Ishnapur to the River. A shield rose above the fur-cloaked shoulders, its curved rim crossed by a lance’s slender, deadly head and the tip of a horse archer’s bow. A short sword rested against the rider’s left hip, with a matching dagger to the right. Her regard, beneath a steel cap trimmed with lynx fur, was somber. “It will hold him to life longer, but the deep healing required is beyond my skill.”

By the way, June has appeared on the blog before, when she provided an indepth report on attending Sasquan (Worldcon) in Spokane:
I love it. Thanks.
Hey June, I’m so glad. 😀
Clearly a woman of many talents. Can’t wait to meet her!
She is definitely a “player character” in this part of the story. 🙂
Squee!
I second Becs!
Omg i’m so hyped!
I’m glad you’re all enjoying this sneak preview of June Gum Young. 😀
Hi Helen. No words to describe how I long for this book to become available. I’ve read and re-read books 1 – 3 and am was so excited to read the short snippet for Book 4. Thanks for the share!
You are welcome, Atrayah.:) Needless to say, I also long for the book to be in your hands — but the muses can be exacting!
