Some Not Quite So Good News For “Daughter Of Blood, The Wall Of Night Book Three”
It’s seems like a very long time ago indeed, June 30 2014 in fact, that I was able to share the initial editorial feedback on the manuscript for Daughter Of Blood, The Wall Of Night Book Three, with words like “tremendous” and “terrific” being bandied about—which was very heartening for me after what had felt like a very long slog.
At the end of last year, I confirmed that the edit stage was also “done and dusted”. In a subsequent post, titled “The Journey Of (Considerably More Than) A Thousand Words”, I also shared something of the nature of the journey to book completion.
At that stage, I hoped the book would get to readers in the Northern Hemisphere Fall / Southern Hemisphere spring 2015, but the publication date has been confirmed as January 2016.
No one is more conscious than I that this date will be almost four years from the publication of The Gathering Of The Lost. I can only apologise for my part in what I know, as a keen reader myself, is a very long wait. I really, really wish it could be sooner for readers, but when a book has taken a long time to write, you lose your place in the production schedule and so must wait until a suitable slot comes up. 🙁
However, my understanding is that the date is ‘firm’ and so should not change again—unless of course, readers clamour so loudly that it is brought forward. But I suspect that would take a very high level of clamouring indeed.
And trying hard to look on the bright side, I am hopeful that the January 2016 publication date may mean the gap between Daughter Of Blood and The Wall Of Night Book Four is a whole lot shorter. All digits crossed that the Muses may prove kind on that score.

Meanwhile, for some ‘sneak previews’ on Daughter, if you haven’t already seen the following, you may like to check them out:
Awww. I can understand how that would be frustrating for you the writer even more than us as readers.
Fingers crossed that the 4th book is a much shorter gap
It “is” frustrating, Paul, although I know there is some good stuff bundled in with the long wait, including a US re-release of the first two titles and new covers etc. It may even give me the bandwidth to update the map, which I would love to do but just haven’t been able to “stretch” to until now. But the fact is that it’s the story that really matters, which is why it is a “grrgh-aargh” for me as much as readers.
May the last legs go smoothly.
I think that is one upside of the delay: that it does ensure that production isn’t rushed. GATHERING was, because of the eq-related delays getting it done, and although we got there (mostly!) in the end it was something of a nightmare for everyone at the proofing stage.
That must be really vexing but I’m sticking with the story, even if it takes longer 🙂
Thank you for that vote of confidence, Ashley: much appreciated!
HOOORRAY!!! Less than a year!! Most excellent.
Hey, huge thanks for the positive, Kristen.
Collectively, you guys have really cheered my flagging spirits. 🙂
