Speaking For The Trees: Last Day For The Give A Little
Today is the last day for the Give A Little to raise funds for the campaign I’ve been keenly supporting — to keep Christchurch’s Heritage and Notable trees protected on Council’s Replacement Plan:
Give A Little: Save Notable Trees In Christchurch
Why?
Just so you know, I am not just putting my hand out — I am one of those the Give A Little video refers to who has given thousands of dollars of my own money and hundreds of hours of my time to this cause.
I am doing this because I believe the trees are one of the most important elements in our post-earthquake landscape that have not only survived, but provide continuity and frame the city’s recovery with an enduring sense of place.
It’s about carrying something of value from the past forward with us into our future, and answering death, destruction, and loss — not with more death, destruction, and loss, but by sustaining life, regeneration, and hope. It’s also very much about trying to deliver on the desire for a green city that was one of the strongest aspirations citizens expressed through the “Share An Idea” consultation on the city’s rebuild.
Where We’ve Got To:
People have been wonderfully generous and so far we have raised over $15,000 — but the target was $25,000 and to fully cover the still-projected costs of completing the process, the campaign really needs that final $10,000.
So if you have it within your means to give a little, or give a little more to help get us over the line, I would be very grateful if you would consider doing so.
