National Poetry Day Today!
Today is National Poetry Day — and I’m reading!
Where: University Bookshop, University of Canterbury
When: Event begins, 12.30 pm
The bookshop will be announcing the result of its National Poetry Day competition, with the winners reading their work, together with guest poets Jeffrey Paparoa Holman and Ben Brown, as well as myself.
And of course there are lots of other National Poetry Day events taking place around the country — you can check them out here.
For even more poetry goodness, check out all the poems featured as part of the National Poetry Day celebration on Frankfurt Book Fair: An Aoteraoa Affair blog, here. (And scroll down: it’s a tremendous blog roll of poetry — also with my poem, The Wayfarer, featured here.
I hope it went well – I didn’t realise there were guest readers, or I might have come – I understood from the ads that it was going to be entirely a reading of quake poems entered in the contest, which didn’t appeal.
Catherine, it went excellently well. Ten poets who had work in the competition read and included poets you will know, such as Elizabeth Roberston and Karen Zelas, as well as some newer faces; and yes, there were also three guests. I don’t think any of the guests read earthquake poems so that made for a nice balance overall. And just nice to have some live poetry happening on National Poetry Day. 🙂
