Thornspell is my first novel and is published by Knopf (Random House Children's Books, USA). It won the Sir Julius Vogel Award 2009 for Best Novel: Young Adult and was a Storylines Childrens' Literature Trust Notable Book 2009.
I love this defiance of categories, Helen – perfectly expresses life!
I am very much a defier of categories and categorization—which always seems a like a kind of lazy shorthand to me, plus playing to our human weakness of wanting to put things in boxes so we can tidily dismiss them!—so as you can imagine, when I saw the quote it really “spoke” to me.:)

So far it’s a horrifying, comical, realist, magical, contemporary myth. 🙂
