“The Gathering Of The Lost” Makes The Gemmell Legend Award Longlist!
I am delighted and honoured to announce that The Gathering Of The Lost has been nominated for the international Gemmell Legend Award, one of three awards established to honour heroic fantasy author David Gemmell.
The award is given for the best novel, published in the preceding calendar year, in the epic, heroic, or high Fantasy genre that David Gemmell exemplified in novels such as Legend, Lion Of Macedon, and Lord Of The Silver Bow.
I number David Gemmell as one of the significant influences in my own love of epic-heroic Fantasy. It is also a tremendous thrill to see my novel longlisted with so many international Fantasy authors whose work is celebrated in the genre—what my friend, poet Bernadette Hall, would call “the crown of good company.”
Once the longlist is curated, the Gemmell Awards are reader voted, with voting links on the award web pageโso for The Gathering Of The Lost to get through into the final round of shortlisted books is dependent on your support.
So I am asking all my readers here, who feel they can in good conscience do so, to click on the following link and vote now for The Gathering Of The Lost:

Voted! Fingers and toes crossed – can you do the ‘double’? Well, you broke new ground with Morningstar so why not?
Why not, indeed? ๐
Thank you for your support, Ciaran.
That’s some awesome company you’re keeping these days, Helen. Can’t wait for the day when Piers Anthony is saying. “Wow! I’m on the same list as Helen Lowe!”
I can’t wait for that day either, Laurice… ๐
I just read the review, Helen, by Shadowhawk on the Founding Fields website. Wow, it is a really glowing review. And Shadowhawk rated your book 10 out of 10. You must be well chuffed!
Very much so, Andrew. Am glad you enjoyed the review–which is here, btw, for others who may be interested:

Excellent review, thanks for reposting here, Helen. 10/10 and no downside! I like that this reviewer thinks you’ve even bested yourself in the sequel – a hard thing to pull off. Wow, super!
Thank you, Michelle! And yes, the Founding Fields review was indeed awesome.:)
Yay Helen! Yay Gathering! Now get back to your computer so we can all read volume three!
I’m working hard to get there with WALL3—I can promise you that! ๐
TERRIFIC Founding Fields review, Helen! Congratulations!!! I’ve just voted! Will tell others!!! BEST OF LUCK!!!! ๐

Thank you, Merrie–I really appreciate the support.:)
Helen my friend. Way back when – I knew it would be. I’m so proud to have been entrusted with those precious words and dreams in those earliest of days. The fruit is now on the trees for all to share. Well done you and well done your tower of strength – your partner.
Thanks, Grant — your early encouragement as an established author certainly helped me believe that I was operating in the realm of the ‘possible’ with the writing dream. And you’re right about the author’s partner also needing to be fully on board with the process — the writing life being a far more demanding one that it may necessarily appear from the outside looking in!
Congratulations on being nominated and for the wonderful work you’ve written Helen; my husband and I have each cast our votes for you. We grew up loving the work of David, Terry Goodkind, Mercedes Lackey et al and we’re proud we can speak about a fellow New Zealander in the same breath as these legends.
Charlotte
Thank you so much, Charlotte: I feel very honored for the support for the books, and through them me, which got GATHERING to the shortlist. It’s a tremendous thrill to be a part of the company you mention and the tradition they represent.
Congrats on getting on the short list.
Thank you, Steve–I shall be posting on it tomorrow here on the blog. ๐
