SciFi Giveaway Saturday: Result
Last week I ran a giveaway Philip Mann’s The Disestablishment Of Paradise (Gollancz), to run over the full week.
The draw is now done and the winner is:
Gillian Polack
Congratulations, Gillian!
For everyone else, thank you for participating and I will do more of these on an ad hoc basis, so keep watching the Saturday space.

In terms of the question, which was: “What book first got you into reading science fiction?” — here’s the list:
Analog, Science Fiction and Fact
Orson Scott Card, Ender’s Game
Robert Heinlein, Have Spacesuit Will Travel
Robert Heinlein, The Door Into Summer
Anne McCaffrey, DragonFlight
William Sleator, The Green Futures of Tycho
Yoko Tsuno, The Three Suns of Vinea
You have totally made my day – thank you!
It’s very nice to make someone’s day: I shall get the book away to you asap after the long weekend.:)
After the fact … but still. Anne McCaffrey!!! I still remember circling it for a couple of weeks at the local library before deciding to give it a chance, after all it had a girl on a dragon on the cover. I still re-read it, but am (alas) a little more alert to some of its flaws.
Was that Dragonflight, or Dragonsinger — I know a lot of readers where the more YA story of Menolly, rather than Lessa with Dragonflight, was the first entry into both the Pern world and SFF.
The book has arrived. I’m so much looking forward to reading it! Thank you :).
You are welcome, Gillian: happy reading!
