It’s Publication Day for New Zealand, Australia & the USA: Welcome to “The Gathering of the Lost”
We’ve survived earthquakes and liquefaction, we’ve counted down with excerpts from the book and finally the first 100 pages, we’ve talked celebrations and blog tours—and now finally, it’s The Day.
Today I’m welcoming The Gathering of the Lost, the second novel in The Wall of Night series, fully into the public arena right here in New Zealand, over the Tasman in Australia (it’s official my books are now Tasmanauts! — waves out to Joanna Preston) and in the USA and Canada. (And in just 9 days time, on April 5, it’ll be out in the UK as well.) And although there’s plenty happening here, later on in first Australian, and then USA, time I’ll be linking through to guest posts on Orbit and SF Signal respectively. So ‘watch this space’ for those links.
You can also check out each edition of the book in more detail by going to the links in the far right sidebar. But now onto what’s happening right here! (As previewed for you on Sunday.)
First off, this is a Celebration, so I’m doing GIVEAWAYS—and yes, they are fully international. (Kinda like me and The Gathering of the Lost, come to think of it—international! 😉 )
All you have to do to enter the Giveaways Draw is post a comment on this post, or any other posts I may make dated 27 March. But to allow international readers a chance to read and comment, the giveaway draw will close off at midnight Wednesday 28 March, NZ time.
.
But Now For Those Giveaways!
.

But As Promised, There is More—
Your Chance To Enter The “Give Your Name To A Character in Daughter of Blood, The Wall of Night, Book Three” Draw:
Everyone who comments on both/either Tuesday 27 (USA/Canada and Australia/New Zealand) and/or April 5 (UK) release days, will go in the draw to give their name to a character in Daughter of Blood, The Wall of Night Book Three.
Provisos include:
- Only 1 comment per every distinct blog post I publish here on Tuesday 27 and/or April 5 will count as an eligible entry (so you automatically get 1 chance to enter on both March 27 and April 5 respectively, but you will get a further chance every time I add an additional post on each of those days);
- The successful name must be the real name of the commenter, not a pseudonym;
- The person whose name is drawn will also be recognised in the Acknowledgments to Daughter of Blood and receive a signed, complimentary copy of that book;
- I reserve the right to adapt the winning name to best fit a fantasy character, e.g. “John the Miller” as opposed to “John Miller”
- I cannot predetermine how the “Your Name” character will appear in the story and whether he/she will play a positive or negative role
—
.
How This Will All Run (A few slight changes here from Sunday’s post, mainly because of time zone considerations):
- All draws will be made by Random Number Integer and the “Name/Character” draw will be made by an independent third party to ensure full transparency(!)
- The opportunity to comment on today’s posts and enter the Giveaway draw will close off at midnight Wednesday 28, NZ time, with the results published as Thursday 29’s blog post.
- The opportunity to enter in the “Name/Character” draw by commenting on either today’s March 27 post(s,) or the April 5 post(s) for the UK launch will close off at midnight April 6, NZ time and be posted as Saturday 7 April’s blog post.
- Also—don’t forget to check back to see if you’ve won 😉

Breaking News:
5.00 pm: My first guest post on the Australian leg of my Blog Tour has just posted on Orbit: “Celebrating “‘The Gathering of the Lost’ and the Power of Environment.” Click on the link to check it out—and I’d love it if you supported the Blog Tour with a comment. 🙂
8.00 pm: And now my first guest post on the North American leg of my Blog Tour has posted as well—over on SF Signal I’m “Celebrating Epic Fantasy & Publication of The Gathering of the Lost.” And, if you miss out on a giveaway here, I’m giving away two copies of The Gathering of the Lost there as well—but you will have to comment there to be in to win.
That time zone difference zapped me, I was all set to trumpet this *tomorrow*
Happy Release Day, Helen!
Thank you, Paul–I am very happy for you to trumpet today and tomorrow: am keeping giveaways open until midnight Weds 28 NZ time to accommodate Northern Hemisphere folk. 🙂
Congratulations on publication day! Now to find an ebook/kindle copy I can buy somewhere…
I believe the e-book will be available on Amazon very soon, which probably means everywhere.
Congratulations on publication! A very exciting day, and I look forward to finally getting to read the sequel.
Thank you, Joel: I’m looking forward to your reading it too. 😉
So excited, glad to see that my wait for something to sink my teeth into is not far away!
I hope GATHERING proves a suistaining read!:)
Ohh I’ve been waiting for this. So nice to be able to buy good NZ authors 🙂
You may comment anytime, Emma — I like “good NZ authors”, oh, very much!:)
Congratulations!!! Hope it goes well.
Thank you, Kathleen: me too!!!
YAY! Happy release day!! So excited to see book 2 enter the world 🙂 Never fails to amaze me just how different the covers are for these in different locations. I adore the NZ covers, so am pleased that’s where I am lol.
I love both the covers, but again they are very different: the US cover speaks to the adventurous of the book and the world, the blue cover to the mysteriousness and magic. (And could there be just a wee bit of romance, too?)
Congratulations.
I know an avid and advanced 9-year-old reader who loved “Thornspell” who would love to win.
I am so glad he loved Thornspell; no matter how mnay books I write I will always have a soft spot for Sigismund, Rue, Balisan, Syrica and the rest of the TS crew!
Congratulations! May it sell a million. 😉
I’m angling for those draw copies of ‘Gathering’… *angle* *angle*
Thank you, Mary! You’re so charming when you angle. 🙂

Thank you, Wen: & may there be plenty of success for everyone!
Happy release day! I’m another one looking forward to the ebook.
Thank you, Laura—& as aforesaid, I hope/believe ‘e” is close!
Really happy ‘The gathering of the lost’ is out now! Am looking forward to getting my own copy to sit next to’The heir of night’, and also to buying it for the school I work at. Off now to add it to my purchase list hooray!
Double hurrah–and would it be “very wrong” for me to propose a book for every pupil … 😉
Yay! Congrats!!! Cant wait to read it. Its been quite the year.
“The year of awful” indeed–but to quote Aragorn (aka Viggo) “not this day.” 🙂
Yes, it is finally here! *excited dancing round the room*
I am thrilled you, this must be such a wonderful day for you. But I must also admit a large proportion of my excitement is very selfish, I have been waiting anxiously to know what happens next with Malian for such a long time.
Congratulations, and also thank you for all your hard work! 😀
What a great idea–leaps up to do her own happy dance. 😉 And it is a great day, not least because there has been considerable hard work–but also good to have folk to share it with. Thank you, though, for recognising ‘the loneliness of the long distance writer.’
Super cool Helen.. fantastic to see NZ authors featuring on the international stage, well done!! Looking forward to another damned good read..
Kind regards
Robin
Hope so, Robin, for that ‘dgr.’ And the support and best wishes are very much appreciated.

Thank you, June—I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts, especially as I know you’re not ‘naturally’ a big book reader.
All the best for release day! am sure you will have some fabulous event planned. Not sure Charlotte is a Derai name, but would love to see it in the next book 😉
Well, only what’s happening on the blog here and a few interviews—but next Tuesday will be the realtime party! Wish you and all the other Wellington folk could be there.
Congratulations, Helen!
Thanks, Janis. 🙂

Thank you, Kris.
Yay! Gathering is out! So sorry I missed the fun but look forward to the UK release.
I was sorry you could not be with us either, Jan, but it will be great to have you here for Thursday 5.
Hello Helen,
I read both books cover to cover and have been re reading them for the last two weeks. I cant wait for daughter of blood book 3. You have an incredible series here and i hope you continue to publish a gazillion more.
Hi Ema, welcome to ‘…on Anything, Really’ — and I’m so glad you enjoyed the books! That is truly music to any writer’s heart.:) I am currently working very hard on 3 and shall get it to you as soon as I possibly can without compromising the quality you have enjoyed with HEIR & GATHERING. But like winter in the ‘A Game of Thrones’ series, both 3 and 4 are definitely coming!
In the meantime, you might like to check out my standalone, Thornspell, for some more ‘Helen Lowe’ goodness. 😉
