SF Signal Mind Meld: “Holding Out For A Hero”
I’m currently participating in a Mind Meld on SF Signal and the topic is:
“What makes a hero (or heroine) a hero instead of merely a protagonist? Is the idea of a straight up hero old fashioned or out of date in this day and age?”
The “meld” part comes in because SF Signal generally invites a range of speculative fiction writers to share their views—and needless to say, as a writer of epic-heroic Fantasy, this was a Meld in which I was delighted to have the opportunity to participate.
Others who have joined in the Mind Meld include:
Emma Newman; Chaz Brenchley; Laura Resnick; Matt Forbeck; Jo Anderton; Chris Holm; Gini Koch; Chris Modselewski; Peter Orullian; Lee Battersby; Marianne de Pierres; David Tallerman; and Diana Pharoah Francis.

You immodestly forget to mention, Helen, that *you* were an inspiration for me creating this Mind Meld topic in the first place. 🙂
Just call me “Immodesty Blaise!” 😉 But honestly, Paul, it didn’t seem important—what matters is the end result, which I think is a fabulous Mind Meld with a diverse range of opinions on the subject of “heroes” in fiction, SFF in particular.:)
Hey that is cool – nice collection of books and authors here! Thanks for sharing.
Hope you enjoy the read, Michelle.:)
