A Friday Giveaway: A Trio of YA Reads
Thanks to my nefarious bookish connections I have three YA novels to give away—so since I haven’t done a giveaway for a while, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
The three novels are (in alphabetical order by author):
Rae Carson’s Fire and Thorns (Gollancz)
Just in case you haven’t heard of it, here’s a the intro snippet from the back cover:
“Princess Elisa is a disappointment to her people. Although she bears the Godstone in her navel, a sign that she has been chosen for an act of heroism, they view her as lazy, useless and fat…”
—
Kristin Cashore’s Bitterblue (Gollancz)
*Note: this is a proof copy
And the intro snippet is: “Eight years have passed since the young princess Bitterblue and her country were saved from the vicious King Leck. Now Bitterblue is the Queen of Monsea and her land is at peace…”
Do you reckon it will stay peaceful though? (I reckon you could be right…)
You’ll also recall that I did a very enjoyable interview with Kristin Cashore earlier this year, which you can read here.
—
Tamora Pierce’s Beka Cooper: Mastiff (Scholastic)
Yes, another of Tamora Pierce’s novels in the wonderful Tortall world!
And the snippet is: “Beka Cooper’s life takes an unexpected turn when her fiance is killed on a raid … and in the span of hours she is plunged ito a case that threatens the future of the Tortallan royal family and the Tortallan government itself…”
High stakes stuff inded, but I am sure that Beka, like all of Tamora Pierce’s heroines, will be more than up for it. π

To enter the giveaway:
Just comment on this post and/or any other post on the blog before next Friday, 2 November, when I will post the outcome. Basically, your name will be entered in the draw every time you comment on each “distinct” post—plus I’ll add in a bonus entry if I see retweets. π
(If you really want to comment on a particular post but don’t want to be in the draw, just put “n.i.d.”—“not in draw”—at the end of your comment.)
That’s it—easy peasy! Now let’s have some fun.:)
—
1 November Note: I will post the result of the draw at the top of the blog masthead on Friday evening, NZ time, so look for it there, not here. Looking forward to the draw on Friday and thanks for all your comments. π
Oooooh Beka Cooper!
One day when I have enough money will get the series.
Beka Cooper is very cool—I like her almost as much as Alanna and Keladry.:)
Fantastic giveaway – these books would be really popular in the school library. And I’ve retweeted π
Go the school library! And thanks for ‘boosting the signal.’ π
I think all of the above 3 books are worth a try.
I’ve read the Tamora Pierce “Alana” series and liked it.

Thank you for such an awesome giveaway, Helen! π All 3 books sound very good!
Happy Halloween! π
I’ve only read Bitterblue out of the three, and it was fantastic. I absolutely love Kristin’s stories! I haven’t gotten around to Fire and Thorn’s though I have been meaning to for a while now π And I haven’t read the Beka Cooper series, though I have read the first few books in Tamora’s Song of the Lioness series which was good π
Thanks for the giveaway π
Boo!
Happy Halloween everyone! Thanks for all the great comments–& those RTs too: great to see ’em. π
These are just the type of books my grandchildren would love to read – but only after grandma has read them first.
Have enjoyed the first two books of your series, Helen, and look forward to more of your story. π
Thanks, Trish–I suspect it’s one of those universal principles, that Grandma should get first dibs. π
Thank you for letting me know that you enjoyed the first two books—in the Wall of Night series? Depending on your grandchildren’s age they may also enjoy Thornspell, although I suspect Grandma might as well…
