My Favourites From 2014
Yesterday, I posted the 10 Most-Read Posts From 2014, here on the blog, — i.e. your favourites.
Today I’m turning the spotlight onto a few of my favourites from the year, not necessarily all on the blog. But I will start with my favourite post of the year:
1. My Personal Favourite Post:
Because after close on 2.5 years of writing, completing the manuscript for Daughter Of Blood so was a moment of intense joy. Being able to share the good news was joyful, too.
Being nominated for and then winning —
The Sir Julius Vogel Award 2014 For Services To Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror
Thank you again to everyone who nominated and voted for me: I was and remain both honored and touched.
3. My Favorite Post Series:
“The Year of Living Heroically” by Amanda Arista on the Supernatural Underground, starting in March with:
Refusing The Call: “But I don’t wanna,” said Every Hero Ever
I enjoyed Amanda’s subsequent take on the “hero’s journey”, monthly throughout the year.
4. My Favourite Site:
and her @brainpicking Twitter account. Check it out and I’m sure you’ll see why.
I read a number of very good books this year but Hild was unquestionably my favourite.
6. Top Film:
Mockingjay 1 – no report on the blog but I really like the film’s handling of Katniss’s story.
After Rebecca’s review on Big Worlds On Small Screens I just had to see it for myself—and have no regrets at all.
8. Favourite Poem:
Lucifer In Las Vegas by Joanna Preston
which I featured as guest editor on The Tuesday Poem Hub
“Supernaturally” with Elizabeth Knox and Laini Taylor
I really enjoyed compering this event at the WORD Christchurch Writers & Readers’ festival in September. And you can still listen to it via the YouTube Playlist by clicking on the link below:

Fellow author, Kate Forsyth, on Thornspell
A quote so awesome I shall repost it here: 😉
“I absolutely adored this book! I love fairy tale retellings, especially ones that are full of magic, peril, and romance, and ‘Thornspell’ is one of the best I’ve ever read.” — Kate Forsyth
