Ah Fantasy, some truths can only be spoken in metaphor, and some plots are just too fun to put down. Good fantasy has both, with amazing characters thrown in, what’s not to love?
Congratulations! And have fun!
It’s definitely all to love! π
Fantastic! Congratulations! It’s so thrilling to see all your years of hard work pay off… Looking forward to having the whole series in pride-of-place on my bookshelf!
Thanks, Joff–couldn’t have done this blog without you!
Yay yay yay! *throws virtual confetti* Here’s wishing you super sales and oodles of well-deserved praise… I want you to plant that kiwi flag right in the heart of the US of A. Go Helen! (Yeah, I know books don’t have passports… but just this once… for fun…)
Consider that flag planted–but maybe no passport for da book! π
Hooray!!! Congratulations, Helen. I hope you can kick back for a bit and enjoy this fantastic achievement before diving back into the next one!
No, now I have to finish the next book! (Seriously.) π And then dive into the next one! But looking forward to your book next year, Jane.
Congratulations Helen from all of us here! A great achievement. Looking foward to toasting it together soon – Viki
Yes, soon! I am longing to see both you and Raewyn again. π
Helen,
I am so excited for this day! I loved HEIR from the moment I first read the manuscript a few years ago, and I am just so very thrilled to see it in print! Enjoy this day– drink much champagne, and have a great time! (And then get back to work on Book 2… π )
Raising my cup of coffee in salute,
Beth
Thanks, Beth—I have always known that you are a paragon of good taste and discernment. π But Book Two definitely waits!
Happy Release Day!! It is such a wonderful story π Looking forward to the next one. (I’ve been “Spelled” , will post review soon)
Sharon–thank you. At present I am looking forward to finishing the next one! Glad you’re “‘Spelled” too. π
Congratulations! π It’s always a pleasure to read good and fascinating fantasy books.
Thank you–and for the opportunity to do the interview. RisingShadow is a wonderful site!
Congratulations on the book release!
Thanks you, Sami. Good to see you here!
Hey, fantastic news! We have a book store (chain, I’m afraid, not independent) nearby, so I’ll be sure to pick up The Heir of Night there this weekend. It’s great to think I’ll have more to read in future, as well. Congratulations!
Congratulations! π Happy Book Birthday! My daughter and I are enjoying Thornspell, and I look forward to checking out The Heir of Night. Why to I love fantasy novels? Because they are filled with imaginative worlds, complicated characters, and intriguing conflicts. π
Fantasy definitely rocks! I’m gald you and your daughter are enjoying Thornspell, Violet.
Congrats on the release!
Fantasy is one of my favourite genres because it takes you to new worlds and makes you encounter amazing things and creatures you can only dream of in real life.
Thanks Sullivan & Carien–good to see you here today!
Well done, Helen – fantastic! I love this idea of a blog party, and you don’t have to clean up afterward! Wishing you great sales and happy fans.
Vanda—it was Claire Beynon’s idea, but I have to say I think it was inspired, especially given we are still in afterquake mode in real time! The great thing about the internet, as well, is that friends can join in from anywhere in the world. π
Congratulations on your wonderful achievement and all the very best for your launch/es and sales!
Micah–thank you!
Fab news – am very excited for you – will have bubbles in November when I see you – Raewyn’s shout!!…
Thanks Jane–and yes indeed, looking forward to that November fizz! As you say, Raewyn’s shout. π
Blog Party!! Woohoo! Am I late? Sorry. *hands over a magnum-sized bottle of Diamondraught* Go EASY on that stuff, it’s a heady brew… Congratulations, Helen! – let’s have coffee and procrastinate soon!
Hey Ciaran–I believe the operatvie term to day is: WOOT! And the party’s going on all day because it’s still the 28th ‘over there’. Maybe all night too if the posts keep coming … π
(Keep em coming, giys: let’s party like there is no tomorrow, as the saying goes!)
Congratulations Helen and thank you for creating new worlds.
Hi Harvey—thank you for joining the party and for your contributions to the Tuesday poem. I always enjoy them!
Congrats, Helen! What a wonderful moment and after so many years and requiring so much dedication! I hope you get to do whatever is your favourite mode of celebration today and that the good news regarding Heir of the Night just keeps coming.
Thanks Nicole–and it was so great to meet you and fellow Supe, Tracey, as well as Erica, in Melbourne. I hope we can all get together again soon!
Hey Helen,
Such a blast to see all the great reviews and know that “Heir” is out there doing it’s thing!
Definitely a time to celebrate.
Just have to find a new place to do it in, what with so many good pubs being knocked over recently…
Thank you, Andrew—you know I couldn’t have done it without you! π
But I am so sad about Sweet Jane’s wine bar being red-carded after the earthquake; there’s definitely something missing in my life. π
Congratulations and yabadaba… go you. I look forward to reading it. Loved Thornspell. Wishing you mega-sales…
Judith, great to see you here and thank you for joining the party. I am so glad you enjoyed Thornspell: I think if you did you ‘should’ definitely like The Heir of Night.
Congratulations, Helen – what a great moment, and a great reward for so much effort (and talent)! I have spread the news of the party on a prominent bird-related social networking tool, so I hope still more revellers (nice, well-behaved ones – not gatecrashers) will join in soon.
The more the merrier, Tim–thank you! And yes, a big day, so pleased you could join in.
I have my best frock and hat on, Helen — what a great party! CONGRATULATIONS on this wonderful achievement…. and thank you for the signed cover that arrived in today’s mail. Lovely! Enjoy long and lively celebrations. Love, Claire
Thank you, Claire–most especially for coming up with the blog party idea!
Oh, fantasy. The best way of saying true things that are made up.
In a nutshell—thanks, Karen!
Congratulations! Enjoy every moment of this magical time. I loved the book and it now sits on the Staff Recommends shelf of the bookstore I where I work (a bit of New Zealand in the middle of the USA as someone put it)…Will try to send you a pic tomorrow, but no promises. I’m a 20th century woman living in the 21st. Again, enjoy your book birthday.
Georgette
Georgette, that sounds just fantastic—I just love knowing that Heir is on a Staff Recommends shelf in Wichita. π If you do manage to send the pic, I will definitely feature it here on the blog.
Congratulations Helen! Happy release day – may it be the first of many.
F&SF – my favourite genre. No limits to the imagination…
Not even the laws of physics, even in much SF! π Thanks for stopping by, Anthony.
Congratulations, Helen! π
Fantasy has always attracted me and it is what I want my life to be.
BTW Today I received Thornspell! THANK YOU!!!
Fantastic, Giada! I’m adding your quote to the list. π
A musical ting of champagne glasses to you, Helen! Congratulations and the best of luck.
Thank you, Alison: chinking right back! π
Helen!
A big warm heartfelt congratulations from me! I’m so excited about this book launch. Am tweeting about it now!
Will it be on Amazon Kindle? I’ll be getting it soon.
Can’t wait to read it.
Big love,
Kim
PS Thanks for your support at WorldCon! At least I made the V party! What a time π
Thank you so much, Kim—and so lovely to have you at the blog party, after meeting you at Worldcon! And yes, I was very glad I reconnoitred that Voyager party venue in advance, otherwise I know I’d probably still be wandering around the Crown Centre! π
Am pretty sure Heir
is
on Kindle—but in fact, it’s on sale next week in Australia as well, only with the red cover! (I can never make up my mind which cover I love more, the red or the blue: I think they’re both amazing!)
They are both amazing covers. I will have to read the book first and then come back and say which I think suits it more.
Again, big congratulations!
